- The Lovers, French duo Fred de Fred and Marion release their new single, 'Crik Crak' on Institute Recordings this week. Now residents of Sheffield, the pair have both had interesting pasts before forming The Lovers in 2001. Fred de Fred has mixed with smugglers, the Soviet Mafia and was at the student riots in Paris in '68 and in Notting Hill in '75! Musically Fred de Fred has worked with the Fon Force, Robin Taylor Firth (Nightmares on Wax), Robert Gordon (Sweet Exorcist), Sarah Jay (Massive Attack), been involved with a rock album in Texas with Kimmie Rhodes and Willie Nelson and a Voodoo Dance show in Ivory Coast with Haitian singer Ife.Marion left home at 17 to live in London where she launched a new "arty poppy-punk sexiness" (The Guardian) with her band "Mademoiselle". She moved to New York where she was Bunny Girl, followed by a stint as a jazz singer in San Francisco. She has worked with various producers including Nellee Hooper (Madonna) and her song "Wonderland" featuring Roisin Murphy (Moloko) scored a #2 hit in the Chart Club (December 2001).Watch out for their upcoming album which was co-written and co-produced with Parrot and Dean Honer (All seeing I), Jarvis Cocker (Pulp), Kevin Bacon and Jon Quarmby (Sugarbabes, Finley Quaye).The Lovers are now performing their "minimalist Franglaise and Brave New World peculiar little Pop songs with an Electronic twist" around the country and you can see them on the following dates: 4th May : LEEDS at The Wet Spot special "Loose and Slots" night. 1st June : LONDON "One 4 The Lovers" night @ Bardens Boudoir, 38-44 Stoke Newington Road 22nd-24th June: GLASTONBURY - Lost Vagueness30th June : MANCHESTER special Party at the Cotton House
