About Gut Recordings
In 1988 Radio and Television plugger Guy Holmes quit his job as Head of Promotions at Island Records, and along with his assistant Caroline Lewis, he set up the Gut Reactions promotions company.
The company's primary ambition was to become Britain's number 1 plugging team, but things changed when Holmes by chance heard a tune whilst travelling home from a night on the tiles.
The song was 'I'm Too Sexy' and the band was Right Said Fred. Holmes struck a deal with the band but despite his confidence that the song was a hit, he could not find a label to put it out.
His solution was to release the song independently on his own newly formed label. His solution was to release the song independently on his own newly formed label.
Right Said Fred went on to sell 6 million singles and 5 million albums around the world - and Guy found himself firmly in the record business.
Gut's History
